ABOUT

Lean Innovations was founded with the singular goal of making New Product Development (NPD) more efficient.
“Inefficient” means not achieving maximum productivity; wasting or failing to make the best use of time or resources. Does this sound familiar with respect to your NPD process?
NPD inefficiency and waste arise from one or more of these factors:

-
Incorrect/incomplete scope - Salespeople, marketers, executives, someone in a company has an idea for a new product that they can sell. The ask for it to be developed and typically identify a few needed features. Most of the time, they do not specify the complete product details, and that leaves a lot of opportunity for error and redesign.

-
Changes in scope/scope creep – New information comes in after the NPD has started, and suddenly the goalposts have moved, often without fully considering the impact on redesign, schedule or cost.

-
Interruptions – NPD teams very often have responsibilities outside of NPD, e.g. supporting production when needed. An interruption can sidetrack an NPD resource for hours or days, and the delay in the NPD project is always longer than the interruption because it takes time to restart.

-
Mismatched resources – Not everyone has a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for every NPD activity.
Lean Innovations provides engineering talent on a contract basis, and engineering talent management in the form of:
-
Setting requirements
-
Identifying risks early on and mitigating them
-
Setting schedule and cost at the beginning of the NPD project
-
Controlling scope by providing transparency on the cost and schedule impact of any changes before making them
